Metrolink Examine App

Not complete

Why can’t they tell you which gate or track number your train is on in the app or on the ticket itself instead of having to find a board at the station to find it? Seems it wouldn’t be difficult.

It’s A scam

Richard hawes made this app to stalk and harass me. He’s a sick individual

Needs major updating for push notifications

I find it super annoying when there’s a delay or a train cancelation once I already arrive at the train station. I wish there was a feature where I can get notifications for the specific train line I usually take notifying me of a train cancellation or delay immediately so I don’t waste my time and money in the mornings when I have to go to work. This app would be golden if it had that.

Spam

I started getting text messages to pay tolls or get penalty. Somehow it got my phone number when i downloaded this app. Beaware.

I like circles, but not that much…

Clicking the button on the app to buy a ticket takes you to the Metrolink website, which says to download the app to purchase tickets. There is a button on the app for purchasing tickets. It was then that I decided to post a review of my experience.

If I could give this app 0 stars I would

Got the app after being told I needed it for them to see a purchased ticket (which is stupid in and of itself. You should be able to get the QR code from the confirmation email they send or through the website like a normal train ticket but I digress) and the ticket I purchased wasn’t even showing up, even after I signed in to my account. And I def wasn’t paying for a new ticket. Literally downloaded the app for no reason. Hey Metrolink, INCLUDE THE QR CODE WITH THE RECEIPT. Why does everything have to be through a broken and useless app these days?

New versions GLITCH

Well first thing if you click in App Store on App support link “page not found”. The main problem is cellular connectivity in the last two versions of the App. I cannot login to Metrolink App, or purchase tickets unless I’m on WiFi or Someone else’s Hotspot. I called the 800# and they referred it somewhere? I haven’t heard back yet.

Needs a few modifications

Please add a feature where we can add favorite trains. This way there’s an easy way to see schedule delays/cancellations. It’s ridiculous to have to click through the app every day to find a train(s) someone rides everyday to ensure it’s on time.

Warning - future purchases

App gave me zero indication that I was buying a ticket that expires at midnight tonight (instead of one that I could use tomorrow). In fact, the “activation” language seemed to indicate I could buy a ticket now and activate it before my journey. Metrolink just got a free $23 that I can never get back.

App works but needs work

The navigation on this app is lazy at best. There’s an issue where if you navigate into certain menus you can’t navigate back to your ticket or vice versa without killing the app. Do better. Please.

Useless

Customer service is unhelpful.

Charged me but never Issued ticket

The app charged me for a ticket and never issued me a ticket. I missed my train because of it.

Made in online ticket purchase, but it’s not showing on the app.

Thankfully I have the receipt, ID and proof of purchase so I can show it to security.

Metrolink isn’t affordable to common man YET

Metrolink isn’t affordable to common man YET. Coming from New York, monthly pass was much affordable. The app does not make it easy and traveling in metro isn’t convenient to make our travel “Anytime”. Your app is so boring, unattractive and hard to see schedules.

Works. Some Bugs.

Overall works fine. However if you have a ticket open and the next day open the app back up, the ticket will of course be expired but when you click close to go back to the wallet, there isn’t a back button to take you back to the Home Screen. You have to force quit the app to be able to return to the Home Screen where you have your favorite trips listed.

Student pass is a lie

I’m a graduate student at USC, and I could use a free ride pass on Metrolink for my weekly commute to riverside, since I’m in financial hardship right now. I heard something about a student adventure pass, so I downloaded the app and registered with my school email. But there was nothing; no sign of a student pass at all. What a lie; so much for this so called “student adventure pass” that does not exist apparently.

Horrible website design

Bought a ticket to union, the trains are even running today yet it still let me purchase for today, on top of that it won’t even give me a refund!

pointless friction

To buy a $4 ticket I had to: download an app, guess at internal jargon (“los” doesn’t find the main station in LA), give an email address, enter 2 passwords, type a credit card, expiration, cvc, and zip code, activate a ticket, navigate through several screens to display a barcode. And then: delete the app and 2 emails it spewed. This is ridiculous compared to the subway: a few clicks to add money to a TAP card in Apple wallet.

Slowly improving but still needs lots more

The app has slowly improved over the years. It’s gotten a lot faster which is great, along with many improvements with UI and ease of navigation. What I hate most is that you still cannot view train schedules in app. Instead, it opens the schedule in your browser. It would be much easier and faster if you could do that. What I do like is the convenience of buying tickets online, which saves paper and you don’t have to deal with the slow and aging kiosks with outdated technology at the station (not to mention sometimes a line); also, if you’re running late you can just hop onto the train first and then buy a ticket.

lol such an embarrassment

What’s the point of an app where the majority of functions just open a webpage? Was anyone who takes a train consulted for this? Still can only buy tickets day of? When you type in ‘Los Angeles’ or ‘LA’ in the station search nothing comes up! What if you didn’t know about union station or to type ‘L.A.’ ? Please can someone at Metrolink go to a city with a functioning commuter rail and learn how apps and schedules and ticket buying is suppose to work? And how much does the CEO make??! Embarrassing.

Tickets expire, and they don’t tell you date of purchase

I bought a ticket for the next day, thinking it’d be smart to buy the ticket ahead of time. Turns out the ticket MUST BE USED THE DAY OF, and it’s not listed ANYWHERE on the app (ONLY on the website)! It confirmed my purchase without letting me choose a date for when to buy the ticket too - which is convenient cuz u can’t actually buy it ahead of time, only the DAY OF. It’s also very difficult to get a refund - you have to wait 4-6 weeks (to only get rejected - customer service said it’s very unlikely to get a refund) Guess the train companies haven’t made enough profit, so they’re trying to get all the free money they can get. Don’t fall for their tricks like me

App needs work

Please improve navigation within this app. There is no back button or tabs or anyway to move between sections. If you’re looking at your profile you have to close out the app and re-open it to get back to the other functions. Also, if you don’t remember your password, you’d have to remember to look it up under “justride.com” instead of Metrolink which is too weird.

This app is not accessible at all with my screen reader

Are used to use this app all the time, but ever since the last update, it does not work with voiceover, I have an iPhone 15 Pro, Max, and all the buttons are unlabeled, I can’t buy tickets, I can’t look at Train times, can’t do anything. I was wondering if this will be fixed in the future.

iOS 17 or iPhone 15 Pro Broke App

Tried to buy tickets on my new iPhone and there is no option to do so. Not sure if it’s the phone or the OS update that has caused this. Used to work fine.

Bad App Design

Very bad UX/UI design. Crashes very often. Seems to offer Apple Pay but your transaction will NOT go through. Add your card information directly into the app. I wouldn’t use this app unless it’s absolutely necessary.

Poorly constructed app

I’m not sure if I’m being dumb or anything, but my ticket doesn’t tell me the plat form. Your link for the schedule isn’t a schedule, it’s a presentation for your monthly uses and isn’t that convenient. You should have daily schedule times and if everything is on time. My entire experience with the app for the last 24 hours is entirely confusing. I ended up googling and using the Internet more than the actual app. I really hope changes happen or I’ll go back to Amtrak.

Slow and Ineffective

Id give it 0 stars if I could

TOOK MY MONEY!

I was charged for my ticket three times for one ticket, a ticket I never received. And it’s currently processing, but unfortunately that means that it took my $45. Money I could’ve had right now but because of the app malfunctioning I don’t. I’m currently waiting to see if it cancels once processed, but still waiting to see when i’ll receive it my money back!

It works be is lacking critical features

1. you can only buy tickets for trains that leave the day you buy them. I would be able to maybe understand this if it weren’t for the fact that the in person kiosk let you but tickets up to a year in advance. I even called to confirm and then complain. It is the opposite of what it should be. 2. The app does not give service alerts. Don’t make me use other dominating companies software like twiter with notifications to see when my train is delayed. This should be done in the mobile app.

No Problems

I have had no problems with this app. It lets you buy tickets, you validate them, show them to the conductor, perfectly fine. I’ve used this app several times when visiting LA and it is perfectly fine.

Incredibly awful

It just houses links to the browser sites. It doesn’t do much within the app.

Favorites and back button 10x improvement

Favorites saved like 5 clicks buying a ticket (for regular riders), and the back button from the schedule menu avoids having to restart the app. Thank you product manager / bureaucrat who transmuted feedback into a better UX! Please, enjoy my 5 star review dopamine hit, and what may likely be the highlight of your otherwise mundane day 🙏🏼 you rock!

SCAM - WARNING AMTRACK RIDERS

You buy the surf liner ticket on the app and the train won’t take it!!!! You have to then buy another ticket on Amtrak! I post $10.75 because of this company.

Terrible layout not logical

This app is exremely difficult to use. Say you pick two cities, go through the payment series and (and you can only assume you are complete) what do you get? Confirmation? No. Big blue button to BUY TICKETS @nd a smaller one of See Your account. Mind numbingkly stupid. If you push Blue Buy button you start buying another useless ticket for same day and route. App should remind users tickets can only be done post midnight on day of travel. A terribly designed app.

Metrolink is happy to steal your money

This app is incredibly deceptive about ticket purchases and it’s impossible to get your money back if you miss the hidden fine print. Don’t make the mistake I did - Metrolink does not, unlike Amtrak, sell advance trip tickets. I thought I could purchase for a future date and it’s same day use only. When I submitted a refund request for a one-time courtesy exception, I was denied. Calling Metrolink customer service was worse than useless. They just took my money for a service that was never rendered. I’m thankful it was only $6.25 I’m out, but it’s the principle not the dollar amount that matters.

Works great for purchase tickets

The app works good for purchasing tickets using a credit/debit card instead of using the station machines. It shows your trips active and past. Works as expected. My suggestion is to accept PayPal.

Useless app

Redirects you to the website Can’t buy tickets online at all.

Absolute trash

While I love taking the Metrolink, this so-called app only reinforces why I prefer buying my tickets physically at the station. I can never update my billing address. Get it together.

Updated Review

These heavily negative reviews that your probably reading are a little outdated, as the app has either been updated or the reviewers are blind as a bat. I personally have seen that it warns you what timeframe you can use your ticket before it expires, and what your start to end destination is. The time frames for when the train shows up doesn't even need to be on the app just get Google maps people. The prices for a ticket can be a bit pricy if your used to bus type prices of $1.5, to pay around 14$ can be a bit much for some people. The Metrolink tickets allow for you to carry it's use onto another train line as well if you understand how tickets work. That actually is my only complaint, explaining what options you have once a ticket is active and how to use those options as most who use trains in general are on the older side.

Among the world’s worst transit apps

The ONLY thing you can do here is buy tickets. Everything else is a web link. No timetable integration, no updates or maps, no statin or journey information. No integration with ticket machines or push notifications or anything that anyone would want in the third decade of the twenty first century. Just like Metrolink itself it’s a broken shell of 19th century think wrapped up in a color scheme and misinformation.

Rewards not syncing

I signed up to the SoCal Explorer to receive rewards every time I purchase tickets and they never sync? It keeps saying email isn’t registered with metrolink but I used the same email. Why offer rewards through the app and they don’t sync?? Also why have 2 separate websites to receive a reward? Doesn’t make sense, why not just put it through ONE?

Recent update with the app??

I’m a regular user with this app because I use it to travel to the LA Union Station. However, I haven’t been using the app for the past two weeks and just started using it again today. I was trying to buy my ticket, and I can’t seem to set my destination to LA Union Station?? I tried exiting in and out of the app, hoping that it’s some sort of glitch and the app can refresh itself. Still the same problem regardless. I found myself a little frustrated because I usually buy my ticket on the app few minutes before boarding the train and loved that I could do this. I hope this can be fixed within the app.

Keeps logging me out

It keeps logging me out and right when I need it, idk the password. Oh also not only does the password not save, your card information also doesn't save, at least the CVV code. So inconvenient when you're trying to catch the train and wanna just get a ticket quickly as you walk up the platform. Not very well thought out.

I saw you added discounted tickets for ebt

I hope you guys the ebt discounts to the app because a lot of us use the app so we don’t stand in line at the train station.

Amazing but could be better

This app is super handy for buying tickets and looking up schedules. It’s much easier to buy through here and not worry about loosing a paper ticket. However, if Metrolink could make it so train tracker and the other options were built into the app that would be great. Right now all they do is direct you to their website with your browser. This should all be done in app. I would also like to get specific notifications for the trains I will be taking. Twitter is great at providing updates but it would be nice if this app could notify me only about my train.

Don’t get ripped off

You would think that you can use an app to buy a future ticket and activate it when you planned to use it. Not with this gem of an app. You must use it by 3 AM the next morning or you just donated your fare towards Metrolink. Try getting your money back. They claim that somewhere in the app, they tell you you must use it on the day you purchased it. Wherever that donation is going, it’s not going to customer service nor towards creating an app that people can trust.

Does not support monthly tickets bought using METROLINK Corporate program

Nice app but lacks support for loading paper tickets bought at kiosk using Metrolink corporate program. Hopefully this can be added to future versions as paper ticket is very flimsy and may stop working before the month ends.

Needs Improvement

There’s a lot good convences with the APP no standing in a big line worrying about missing your train. Or arriving to a station where the ticket machine doesn’t work, try to tell that to the conductor 🫤What I don’t like as after buying a ticket I lose the ticket scan screen and then I can’t get the screen back unless I log out and log back in. This is frustrating for me and the conductor. Another issue why do they promote a $15 summer ride and 5 days after it starts there is no way to purchase it on the APP🤔Maybe if Metrolink would fix these issues more people would ride the train.

Garbage. Bad UI/UX. Bad functionality

Why does the ticket expire at 3 am the next morning? What is the point of the existence of this useless app??!!
